Therapy for Stress and Burnout
Space to understand what is wearing you down and what needs to change.
You may still be meeting deadlines and taking care of other people while feeling depleted or increasingly detached. Rest might help briefly without changing the demands you return to.
Therapy can help you look at the pressures, expectations, and patterns that are making life difficult. The goal is not to become better at tolerating every demand placed on you.

Your experience
Keeping up can come at a cost.
You may notice irritability, difficulty switching off, less patience, or a sense that there is never enough time. Counseling can help separate what can be changed individually from demands that require practical or organizational changes.
You may recognize some of these concerns and not others. What matters is how your own experience is affecting you and what you would like help with.
Constant demands
There may be little room to recover between responsibilities.
Difficulty disconnecting
Work or worry can continue after the day ends.
Changing motivation
You may feel detached from work or activities you once valued.
Understanding your care
Your experience deserves careful attention.
Burnout is described by the World Health Organization as an occupational phenomenon, rather than a medical diagnosis. Stress can also occur outside work. An assessment helps consider whether anxiety, depression, sleep problems, or other concerns are present.
At Embody Health Psychology, our clinical health psychology perspective considers physical health, emotions, relationships, and daily life together. That biopsychosocial perspective helps us understand your concerns without reducing them to a single cause.
An Integrative Approach
Our integrative approach considers how physical health, emotional experiences, relationships, and daily life influence one another. We draw from different psychological approaches to shape care around your concerns and goals.
We examine workload, relationships, expectations, physical health, and available support together. Therapy can address coping and boundaries while acknowledging that structural problems cannot always be solved by personal self-care.
You do not need to arrive with a perfect explanation. Your clinician will ask questions, discuss treatment options, and help you choose goals that fit.
Depending on your needs, somatic therapy techniques may help you recognize tension and experiment with pauses that feel manageable. Rest does not have to become another task to perform perfectly.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) may help you understand the pressure to keep achieving, the fear of disappointing others, and the part of you asking for a different pace.
Your goals may include:
Recognizing unsustainable demands
Clarify which pressures are draining your time and energy.
Practicing workable boundaries
Discuss limits and conversations that may support change.
Reconnecting with priorities
Identify what matters beyond simply keeping up.
Addressing related distress
Discuss anxiety, low mood, or other concerns when they are part of your experience.
Finding a useful pace
Set priorities that fit your clinical needs and current circumstances.
Choosing next steps together
Review what is helpful and whether other care or support is needed.
Common questions
What you may want to know.
Is burnout the same as depression?
No, although symptoms can overlap. A clinical assessment can help distinguish occupational burnout from depression and other concerns.
Will therapy just give me more self-care tasks?
Care should fit your actual circumstances. We can examine demands and choices together rather than add a generic list of things you should be doing.
How does coordination with other providers work?
When coordination would be helpful, your clinician can discuss it with you. Sharing confidential clinical information requires appropriate authorization. Together, you can decide what is relevant to share.
