Psychological Assessment & Evaluation

In person (Miami) and online (Florida + PSYPACT states)

Clarity is its own form of relief. A thorough psychological evaluation gives you language for what you have been experiencing, documentation that reflects the full reality of it, and a clear direction forward.

"Many people spend years in treatment without ever having a clear, complete picture of their psychological functioning. A comprehensive health psychology evaluation changes that.”

-Dr. Mariah

Psychological evaluations for medically complex conditions require more than general clinical training. At Embody Health Psychology, assessments are grounded in specialized health psychology training and direct clinical experience with the conditions being evaluated, which means the report accurately reflects the full scope of what you are living with and what it has cost you functionally.

Types of Evaluations

  • Required before bariatric surgery and certain pain management procedures including spinal cord stimulator implantation. Assesses psychological readiness, identifies factors that could affect your recovery, and provides the clearance documentation your surgical team requires. Conducted in Miami or via telehealth.

  • For individuals who have been in and out of treatment without clear answers, or who want a complete and accurate understanding of their psychological functioning. This evaluation addresses diagnosis, functional impact, and the relationship between your psychological and medical experience. It is particularly useful when the clinical picture is complex, when previous diagnoses have not fully fit, or when you need thorough documentation to support treatment planning or accommodations.

  • For individuals navigating Social Security Disability or private disability insurance claims. This evaluation documents psychological diagnosis, functional limitations, and the real-world impact of your condition on daily and occupational functioning. Particularly relevant for IC, POTS, MCAS, GI disorders, fibromyalgia, and other conditions whose functional burden is frequently undercaptured in standard evaluations.

  • A comprehensive evaluation of personality structure using validated instruments including the MMPI-3 and PAI. Indicated when you want a deeper understanding of how your personality patterns influence your emotional experience and relationships, when a personality disorder diagnosis is being considered, or when you have been in treatment and feel like something foundational has not yet been addressed.

Evaluation Process

Intake and records review:

Before the evaluation, relevant medical and psychiatric records are reviewed so the assessment is grounded in your full history, not just what surfaces in a single session.

Evaluation session:

A clinical interview and, depending on the type of evaluation, standardized psychological testing. Conducted in person in Miami, Florida or via telehealth.

Written report:

A comprehensive, clearly written report is delivered within the agreed-upon timeframe. It addresses diagnosis, functional findings, and specific recommendations personalized to your situation.
