Therapy for Depression

Support when low mood, disconnection, or the effort of getting through the day is becoming too much.

Depression does not always look like sadness from the outside. You may be keeping up with responsibilities while feeling flat, exhausted, or less interested in things you used to enjoy.

You do not have to explain the feeling perfectly to seek help. Therapy can provide a place to understand your symptoms, discuss what has changed, and build a care plan that fits your needs.

Your experience

Small things may take much more effort.

Sleep, concentration, motivation, and relationships can all be affected. You may also feel frustrated with yourself for struggling. Treatment starts with understanding the pattern, not asking you to simply think positively.

You may recognize some of these concerns and not others. What matters is how your own experience is affecting you and what you would like help with.

Less interest or connection

Activities or relationships may feel less rewarding.

Daily effort

Ordinary tasks can feel unusually difficult to begin or finish.

Self-criticism

You may blame yourself for changes you did not choose.

Understanding your care

Your experience deserves careful attention.

Depression is a treatable mental health condition. Assessment considers symptom severity, medical factors, other mental health concerns, and safety. Psychotherapy may be used on its own or alongside medication and other care, depending on clinical needs.

At Embody Health Psychology, our clinical health psychology perspective considers physical health, emotions, relationships, and daily life together. That biopsychosocial perspective helps us understand your concerns without reducing them to a single cause.

An Integrative Approach

Our integrative approach considers how physical health, emotional experiences, relationships, and daily life influence one another. We draw from different psychological approaches to shape care around your concerns and goals.

We explore how mood, thoughts, behavior, relationships, physical health, and current pressures interact. Therapy can include practical steps and deeper work on patterns that are relevant to your experience. Your clinician will discuss the level of care that fits.

You do not need to arrive with a perfect explanation. Your clinician will ask questions, discuss treatment options, and help you choose goals that fit.

Depending on your needs, somatic therapy techniques may include gentle attention to posture, tension, or the immediate surroundings when you feel numb or disconnected. We choose an approach that is accessible at your current energy level.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) may help you explore harsh self-judgment or conflicting feelings about reaching out, alongside treatment for depressive symptoms.

Your goals may include:

  • Understanding changes in mood

Identify symptoms, context, and contributing concerns.

  • Rebuilding daily participation

Develop manageable steps toward routines and valued activities.

  • Addressing painful self-criticism

Examine the ways you respond to yourself when you are struggling.

  • Addressing related distress

Discuss anxiety, low mood, or other concerns when they are part of your experience.

  • Finding a useful pace

Set priorities that fit your clinical needs and current circumstances.

  • Choosing next steps together

Review what is helpful and whether other care or support is needed.

Common questions

What you may want to know.

Do I have to take medication?

Medication is one treatment option, not a requirement for every person. Your clinician can discuss whether a medication evaluation may be useful; prescribing decisions belong with a medical provider.

What if I need immediate support?

This practice is not an emergency service. In the United States, call or text 988 for immediate crisis support. Call 911 if there is immediate danger.

How does coordination with other providers work?

When coordination would be helpful, your clinician can discuss it with you. Sharing confidential clinical information requires appropriate authorization. Together, you can decide what is relevant to share.

Is telehealth available?

Embody Health Psychology is based in Miami, with telehealth available across 40+ PSYPACT states through appropriately authorized psychologists. Availability depends on the clinician, your location, and the service. Confirm the fit during your consultation.
